Porsche AG, one of the largest automobile manufacturer specialized in sports cars and sedans, has invested in the Croatian hypercar company, Rimac Automobili, by taking a minority shareholding of ten percent. The investment, as stated in the official press release, is part of Porche’s electrification efforts.
“We feel that Rimac’s ideas and approaches are extremely promising, which is why we hope to enter into close collaboration with the company in the form of a development partnership”, stated Lutz Meschke, Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board and Member of the Executive Board for Finance and IT at Porsche commenting the investment.
“By developing the purely electric two-seaters super sports cars, like the ‘Concept One’ or ‘C Two’, as well as core vehicle systems, Rimac has impressively demonstrated its credentials in the field of electromobility”, Meschke added.
For Rimac Automobili on the other hand, this investment is an important step in company’s strategic goal to become a component and system supplier of choice in the industry in electrification.
“This partnership now is an important step for Rimac on our way to becoming a component and system supplier of choice for the industry in electrification, connectivity and the exciting field of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems. We are delighted to have gained a high level of trust from our investors, partners and customers and are looking forward to continuing working on exciting projects with our clients across the automotive industry”, explains Mate Rimac, CEO at Rimac Automobili.
Founded in 2009 with headquarters in Croatia, Rimac started as a garage project and grew into a globally recognized technology leader, built upon the passion and vision of the company’s Founder and CEO Mate Rimac. Today, Rimac Automobili is a technology powerhouse, manufacturing electric hypercars and providing full technology solutions to global automotive manufacturers. At the moment, the company’s main focus is high-voltage battery technology and electric powertrains.
The company’s flagship, the Concept_One, was entirely designed, developed and manufactured in-house. In 2018 Rimac introduced the next generation hypercar, the C_Two, a car alive with technology. Reportedly, the two-seater C Two is faster than Tesla’s next-generation Roadster prototype revealed last November by Elon Musk. The company employs over 350 people and has grown into a leader within a highly competitive industry with the ambition to become a full electrification partner for many OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers).
Apart from Porsche, other big companies that invested or cooperate with this Croatian company are Aston Martin, Jaguar, Renault and China’s Camel Group. According to techcrunch.com Rimac’s tech was used in the E-Type Zero Jaguar driven by Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex at their wedding last month.
