European Space Agency business incubators (ESA BIC) network has 20 centers across Europe. “Six high-tech companies with global potential have already joined the incubation during the first year. They have created 12 new jobs and show good growth in turnover. This is a great network to develop your business and share experiences.” elaborates ESA BIC Estonia manager Andrus Kurvits. In addition to financial support and an amazing network, the space business incubator offers technical support and access to a great number of ESA inventions waiting to be commercialized.
The manager of Tehnopol Startup Incubator Martin Goroško says every company using novel materials or technologies, positioning or communication solutions that are space related is welcome to apply. “Many applications on the market today are using satellite data for positioning and navigating, but the companies don’t realize that their product is related to space or it could be related with little effort. We have many companies in Estonia who are developing novel materials and could benefit from the material research done in the European Space Agency. We can help the space-related startups with experts and mentors but also financial support!”
ESA BIC Estonia is first of its kind in the Baltic States. Its goal is to help 20 companies reach international market during five year period by providing them 50 000 € seed money and industry-specific mentorship.
The implementation and ongoing management of ESA BIC Estonia are led by the Tartu Science Park in cooperation with the Tallinn Science Park Tehnopol. The incubation offices are located in both cities.
The BIC Estonia Consortium consists of 8 partners: Tartu Science Park, Tallinn Science Park Tehnopol, City of Tartu, City of Tallinn, University of Tartu, Tallinn University of Technology, Tartu Observatory, and Kredex.
