Serbian AskGamblers Sold for EUR 15 Million

AskGamblers.com is the world’s leading online gaming web portal that covers more than 1000 casino sites and offers detailed reviews for each of them. Founded in 2006 by Igor Salindrija, the website has become an online empire in the field of iGaming. Following numerous success stories in building its online presence for the past 10 years, on April 3 this year the portal was acquired by the Maltese Catena Media for EUR 15 million. Catena Media announces this acquisition as the third strategic acquisition for the year as well as the largest in their history.

AskGamblers is known as the world’s most visited web portal where online gamblers can gather valuable information regarding global ranking of casinos and players. What makes this site stand out from its competition on a global level is the unique opportunity it offers to users in terms of solving disputes they have with online casinos. About EUR 5 million have been successfully refunded to players so far. Best Casino Affiliate is the title with which AskGamblers was honored four times by now, in 2010, 2012, 2015, and 2016 respectively.

The website counts over 7,500,000 monthly pageviews, and more than 80,000 newsletter subscribers. The profit of the company at the very beginning of this year amounted to more than EUR 650,000. The great amount at which Catena Media agreed to acquire AskGamblers makes this the highest public acquisition of a Serbia-based technology company, as reported by Startit.

According to Salindrija, “Catena Media has grown into one of the most interesting actors in our industry and it feels particularly exciting that AskGamblers will now enter the next phase together with them.” Catena Media currently employs 130 people in 3 countries. The Belgrade based team consists of 30 members, which have all been offered to continue working under the new brand. This team is part of the AskGamblers development center and provides the company with technical knowledge for further development.

“We are incredibly proud of acquiring AskGamblers which is one of the best brands in the affiliate market and whose operations are a perfect fit for Catena Media. AskGamblers is an extremely important site for casino operators and, through its stringent requirements for certified casinos, contributes to creating a better iGaming industry. The transaction is the largest in Catena Media’s history and in line with our strategy of growth through acquisitions in a fragmented market. In parallel, we are strengthening our team with a number of highly skilled individuals and this transaction provides us with the opportunity to build the office in Serbia into an extremely cost-efficient development centre for Catena Media,” explains Robert Andersson, CEO of Catena Media.
